George William bought the property in the High Street, Kings Langley from the current owner, 70 year old William Austen. The agreement was witnessed by George's brother Walter Stephen Cook and by William Austen's associate, retired saddler William Cromach.
The text of the Bill of Sale reads:
I Wm Austen do agree to let my Business of Wheelright with the stock of trade of Workshop and Shop in front the shed in yard and all inside except two Wheelbarrows the Jack and a pair of wheels belonging to Alfred Timberlake For Ninety Pounds Paid one Pound Deposit To Take Possession on Monday April 26 1886

The text of the letter reads:
Ref No. C 5070 Potten End Vicarage, Berkhamsted, July 10 1917
Sir, Mrs C. Oakins of 2 Potten End asks me to let you know that she has received two letters from her son
Pte Owen Oakins 291339, 10th Middlesex Regt
lately reported wounded and missing. The first letter written April 12th said that he was in hispital at Nazareth. This was received last Saturday. The 2nd letter written May 15th was received the day before. He had not put any address on it - but in a different hand was written "O. Oakins, prisonnier de guerre a Dames". I have called her letters they are really post cards. He says that he is going on all right "Damas" I presume is Damascus
